ULEZ
Beginning from the 8th of April Ultra Low Emission Zone will be in place in Central London. Most vehicles will be charged a fee to drive within the area unless they meet the new emission standards.
2 April 2019
Why ULEZ?
Air pollution is one of the main challenges facing London and its residents. The ULEZ is being introduced to help reduce the most harmful emissions generated by road transport in central London and across the Capital.
Breathing toxic air daily causes damage to children lung growth, especially that at least 360 primary schools are located in areas exceeding safe legal pollution levels.
How much will you pay?
- £12.50 for most vehicle types, including cars, motorcycles, and vans (up to and including 3.5 tonnes)
- £100 for heavier vehicles, including lorries (over 3.5 tonnes) and buses/coaches (over 5 tonnes)
It will replace the toxic T-Charge introduced by London Mayor Sadiq Khan last year but will be an addition to the weekday Congestion Charge and the Low Emission Zone (LEZ) charge.
From 25 October 2021, the area will expand to the inner London area.
